Oh Holy Night ~ Christmas DIY Sign
A couple of years ago I was scrolling the interwebs and saw a super cute sign that had been hand letters onto parchment shipping paper. I immediately thought, “Oooooh! I want to make one!” So I headed to the $1 Store and picked up a few tubes of this parchment shipping paper in the wrapping paper section and give it a whirl.
It was super easy and turned out super cute. Now I hang it every year above my Great Grandmother’s piano.
If you want to try your hand at making a DIY Christmas Sign, here’s what I used and what you’ll need:
1 tube of parchment shipping paper
Yard stick or straight edge
Pencil
Twine
Paperclips
Prior to hand lettering I found a script on Pinterest I wanted to copy. Then proceeded with the following:
Cut parchment paper to desired length, leaving approximately 15 inches of space at the top and bottom to allow the paper to roll inwards once finished. The length of the non-rolled section where the hand lettering is written is 32”.
Lightly draw lines to help keep script straight.
Hand letter each word lightly in pencil prior to using a Sharpie. This will help in spacing, spelling, and shape of each word.
Once each word is written out in pencil, trace using a fat chiseled Sharpie. Add dimension on thickness to letters on the down stroke of the letters. This creates a more calligraphy style to the letters.
To hang, cut twine to length and tie to the ends of the twine to two paperclips.
Clip the paper clips onto the top edges of the rolled up portion to allow for hanging.
I also used two additional paperclips to roll and secure the bottom.
Viola!
