How do you adequately put into words the experience of walking through an orphanage? The emotions that are running through your head. The thoughts that are consuming you.

For 2 years this was my son’s world… And 2 years is short compared to the many children who are still waiting. But let me tell you - 2 years is TOO long.

Looking back through these photos grips my stomach.

There are so many children left behind… So many still waiting… So many still hoping for families… So many wishing to get out from behind these walls.

Institutionalization is real. And the impact it has on little lives is horrendous. No matter how caring the care takers can be.

It is difficult to look back through these photos and not cry.

There are so many children still waiting…

Abandonment is very real. And not just in China. It is everywhere. In every culture. No country is exempt. And every child is worth fighting for. Worth caring for, loving deeply, and protecting. My heart still aches for every child we left behind.

To better understand abandonment in Asia, I HIGHLY recommend reading the book: Messages From An Unknown Chinese Mother or watching the documentary, The Drop Box. Ignoring a problem doesn’t make it go away… It only magnifies it.
