For decades, adoptions were finalized in China on Shamian Island. The U.S. Consulate office use to be here and thousands upon thousands of families have walked these streets with their new children in hand. And while the U.S. Consulate has since moved, adoption groups still return to this historic place.

Here we went shopping and toured the island. We also had lunch at an American style restaurant called Lucy’s, which has been an iconic dining place for so many over the years. It was very touching to walk these streets. To know that so many have come before us and have been united with their children was such a special moment.

Below are some sites of the island.

While shopping, we came across this store that had me in tears. The worship music and the stores purpose to help orphaned and abandoned children was such a beautiful moment.

It was a fun and lovely afternoon. But we CRASHED when we all got back to the hotel. Naps and pool time were needed! Then, it was time for dinner at our FAVORITE place in Guangzhou, THE MUSLIM NOODLE SHOP! I still dream about the food…
