Winter Simmer ~ DIY

Winter Simmer ~ DIY

I love the smells that fall and winter brings.

Yes, yes, technically it is not winter yet. But, that doesn’t mean my house can’t enjoy the lovely aroma of mulled spices.

One of the simplest ways to enjoy the rich aroma of winter spices is by simmering them. Since we have a gas stove, I prefer to use my Little Dipper Crock-Pot I picked up from the second hand store last winter. It is an easy energy efficient way to allow my spices to simmer instead of worrying about a pan on the stove.

My favorite winter simmering spices are: cinnamon, orange, star anise, cloves, all spice, and cranberries. It fills the house with such a rich aroma and makes these dark winter days comfy cozy.

Most grocery stores will sell small packets of mulling spices for hot cider or mulled wine, which is a great cost effective way to enjoy these spices for a fraction of the cost.

Enjoy!
