GET UP!

GET UP!

I love this space in our house. For a long while it was just a pretty room without significance. A space I never really sat in. But not now. Now this is like a quiet sanctuary for me. A sacred space.

No, this room isn't the "holy of holies" but it is my consistent meeting place. A place without distractions, a quiet room to read, pray, and seek. A room for me and God.

It's the room my kids find me in most mornings when they wake. And I pray this image is burned on their hearts... Not the room or chair but finding their mom sitting and seeking after Jesus in the quiet of the morning.

Creating consistency doesn't need to feel hard or like a job. This is DESIRE vs duty. But it doesn't mean that at times that desire had to be created out of created habit and training myself to first GET UP.

When I first started waking in the morning it was hard. My alarm clock and bed were more enticing than this space. "I'll do it later, okay Jesus?" But later never really happened... So I started making it easier to pull myself out of bed early in the morning. And now I crave and look forward to this space. Here are some things that helped me:

  • My coffee is pre-set and automatically turns on in the morning. No one likes burnt coffee and the smell of fresh brewed coffee is always a lovely aroma in the morning.

  • My Bible, pens, notebooks, and anything else I want or need is sitting next to my chair. That way I am not wasting time searching for these things in the morning.

  • The lamp next to my chair is also on a timer and turns on every morning at 6AM. When my alarm goes off I can see the faint light illuminating the hallway from my room.

Creating a "meeting space" doesn't need to be a painful task. But it does require consistency. No athlete shows up to a race or competition unprepared. They are dedicated and show up every day to prepare mentally and physically. Why then would we think we can meet the matches of this world not spiritually prepared?? Why would we think we can go about our days on our own strength versus preparing mentally and spiritually? I hate to break it to you, but you’re not strong enough to fight these daily battles on your own, and neither am I.

"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." (Ephesians 6:12)

You got this! Get up! Create your meeting space with Jesus DAILY. Consistently. Find that time, space, and location and DO IT.
