November 23, 2017

11 hours from Beijing to Seattle, WA. We could do it. And please oh please, let him sleep for part of it!

November 23 was like the movie Groundhogs Day. We lived it twice.

Right before we boarded our plane, I saw another family running up to the gate. It was obvious they were from the States, and had recently adopted as well, and were on their way home. I even recognized her because we had connected over social media. And now, of all places, we were getting ready to board our final flights home to Seattle. Molly and her family have a beautiful story and journey as well, be sure to head over to her blog to read their story. :)

Thankfully little mister fell asleep before we took off on our flight and also slept for about 2 hours. I knew I was stressing out a few gentlemen when they saw that I had a toddler with me for the flight. But don’t worry, I kept my sarcastic comments to myself. :)

Tristan did SOOOO well on the flight, as did Brooklynn! None of us, except Tristan, slept a wink on our return flight. And to say we were exhausted when we finally got home is an understatement. But we made it!

When we did get home, we had the most wonderful welcome committee who got up EARLY on Thanksgiving morning and welcomed us at 7:00AM! My dear friend and fellow photographer, Kim Charie, so kindly got up at the butt-crack of dawn and documented this special moment for us.

Below is a short video of our homecoming.

Our 60 minute drive home was awful. This was the first time Tristan had ever experienced a car seat as they aren’t required in China. To say it was a rough drive home is an understatement.

Finally home, we CRASHED!

The days and weeks ahead would be the toughest yet…
