Always Faithful, Always Constant || Let Us Not Forget

Always Faithful, Always Constant || Let Us Not Forget

I was reading through Pslam chapter 78 this morning and was reminded of how faithful and constant God is. He is never changing, always faithful, always constant, full of love and compassion even when we are not.

Psalm 78 gives a short account of the Israelite’s journey through the wilderness. A journey that brought them out of slavery and later into a time of testing to see if their hearts truly trusted God. “He decreed statues for Jacob and established the law in Israel, which He commanded our ancestors to teach their children, so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God and would not forget His deeds but would keep His commands.” (1) But sadly, they did forget. When hardships arose, their grumbling began “for they did not believe in God or trust in His deliverance.” (2)

Hardships would come and they would cry out to God and He would perform mighty miracles and deliver them. Over and over and over this would occur. Yet, “in spite of all this, they kept on sinning; in spite of His wonders, they did not believe.” (3) Whenever testing would happen, THEN they would seek Him and turn to Him. “They remembered that God was their Rock, that God Most High was their Redeemer. But then they would flatter Him with their mouths…” (4) YET He was merciful; He forgave their iniquities and did not destroy them. Time after time He restrained His anger and did not stir up His full wrath. He remembered that they were but flesh, a passing breeze that does not return.” (5)

Right now we are going through hardships. Hardships of loneliness. Hardships with jobs, hardships with health… The list can go on and on and on. But I am reminded that God is always faithful, He is always constant. He is our provider, our deliverer, and the one we depend on. He is the one who gave us breath and life (6) and formed us out of dust. He knows EVERYTHING we desire, need, and want even before we ask of it. (7) But what He is asking of us is to TRUST - IN - HIM. That we truth in Him with ALL, not some, ALL of our hearts, leaning not on our understanding of things; but in ALL, not some, ALL our ways submitting to Him, and He will make our paths straight. (8)

Here is my prayer after all of this (COVID19) is put behind us, that those who profess to be Believers, who have been turning to God during this difficult time, do not forget how faithful He has been to you during this time. One of the biggest mistakes we could make when this wilderness season is over is forgetting. Forgetting His goodness. Forgetting that He provided. Forgetting that He is constant, never wavering, always faithful, always loving. Let us not forget.

I want to encourage you to write down God’s faithfulness to you. How He has provided during this time. When we write these things down, we are reminded during the “good times” how faithful He was. And let us not forget. Let us not be like the Israelites. When things go back to normal, when things become “easy” again, let us not forget who our Hope is in, who we cling to, who we should turn to DAILY in good times and bad. Let us not forget His goodness, that He is always faithful and always constant.
